Whittington and Chirk

I went to Whittington and Chirk yesterday, and managed to visit a few places. Whittington is a small village just outside of Oswestry and has a lovely small castle, quite well preserved.

I enjoyed a sausage sandwhich in the Tea shop, and found out that the castle is community owned and run. Shame the weather was a bit overcast, but was still enjoyable! I then popped down the road to Chirk Castle and then to Chirk Aqueduct and Viaduct. Chirk castle is still lived in and is famous for switching sides in the long running Welsh V English wars throughout the ages. This means it wasn’t ransacked and ruined…

Just down the road are two great examples of engineering, Chirk Aqueduct and Viaduct. The railway is carried slightly longer and higher because of it’s supposed superiority, nebermind it was constructed later!
