Thinkpad X300

I’ve been trying to get hold of a cheap but portable laptop for over a year now, but also one with a decent keyboard. I had the chance to get a Thinkpad X300 over the weekend, and now it’s all up and running on Windows 8 (!) here are my thoughts on it.
Well it’s built well, but it’s also light – much better built and lighter than the other half’s “modern” laptop. The cpu is “only” a 1.2ghz ULV Core 2 Duo and it has 2 gig but crucially a 64gb SSD boot drive. With a few tweaks i can get a shade under 4 hours battery life, and whilst I’m typing this on the Thinkpad I have got to say that the keyboard is superb! There is a built in webcam, but it’s not great, and a nifty light to illuminate the keyboard which is pretty good…

So all in all I’m pleased with it, Windows 8 is a bit Meh though as I tend to go to the same programs and so a lot appears to be just fluff I don’t use. We shall see if I can tailor my useage to use it a bit better rather than just dropping back to the desktop which seems to be one of the options I’m using often…
